We had a flash flood on Saturday night and the chicken coop has gotten water in areas. I cleaned the whole coop out yesterday (had to clean the basement out first). The wet bedding smelled very strong of ammonia so I’m guessing that is what caused the lung issues.

All day yesterday the flock was fine but at lock up last night I noticed 2 birds sneezing/wheezing. I seperated the two immediately. I’m wondering the next course of action. I am unable to take them to the vet as we have quite the bills with the basement flooding.

I tried to upload a video but I don’t have the patience for embedding right now.

Post your video to YouTube and then copy the URL and paste it onto your next comment. The video will then manifest itself when you hit "post reply".

It's very possible the bedding got moldy and some of your chickens are suffering from a mold-based respiratory flareup. Oxine in a vaporizer set in a confined space with the sick chickens will help clear up the infection. Even if it's ammonia caused, Oxine vapor can help clear it up by removing any bacteria from the air around your patients as their lungs heal. https://www.amazon.com/Bio-Cide-Int...?ie=UTF8&qid=1530624679&sr=8-1&keywords=oxine

Certainly. I got my Oxine here https://www.revivalanimal.com/product/oxine-animal-health-ah?sku=15101-801 and received it within a couple days.

I'm talking about a vaporizer like we use for people with bad colds. Place the chickens in a roomy dog crate and set the vaporizer in front of it with a damp towel over the crate to trap the Oxine vapor, making sure that there's still a good flow of fresh air.

Can you post a video of them? Upload to youtube, then provide us a link.

I have not seen Oxine in stores only online. Some people use VetRx, you can find that at most feed stores like Tractor Supply. I would still get the Oxine, but the VetRx may give them a tiny bit of relief until that arrives.

I'm very sorry about your basement, birds and coop. Were you able to get the basement and coop dried out for the most part?

@Wyorp Rock thanks! It’s still a work in process in the basement drying out but the coop is fully emptied and has had a fan blowing in there since yesterday mid morning. It’s dry now for the most part. The photos are from yesterday after clean out but have since dried. It really could have been a lot worse on all accounts so we feel very blesssed.

I’m working on getting a video uploaded. I’m sick myself (going on week 2) so I’m struggling to get my mind working how I need.
