Coop floor ideas?!?

So i'm recently using rough, all purpose sand for the floor of my two coop's..the coop's are not that big and so cleaning is not super hard but the sand gets wet and stinky where their water nipples drip when they drink. Im just curious if any one else is having a better experience with other flooing material? Im always looking for tips and tricks to improve my hens home!

I use pine shavings. Deep litter method. Have no issues. I just turn it love once a week and add more shavings as the lower levels compost.

Deep littler method? Ive never heard of that. Do you put littler down first and then pine shavings? Does the pine shavings get soggy, moldy or stink? I only have one RIR and a Blue Cochin in one coop and 3 Bantams in my other coop so i have been cleaning the sand about once a week anyway.

I misread you question. Above is what I do for the run. I use shavings in the coop, too, but I replace those shavings vs weekly and throw them in one of my composters for later use in the garden.

In the run, keep about a 4 inch layer of shavings on top of the dirt. Poop and wet shavings settle to the bottom and compost and the upper layer stays dry (I do have a roof over my run. I stir it up weekly with a rack, but the chickens pretty much keep it stirred up with their scratching..

Oh ok. So if you change the shavings weekly then they don't get moldy or soggy? Thats my biggest concern.
