Coop floor preference

My coop has a wooden floor that I covered with some leftover linoleum from our bathroom remodel. I've been using pine shavings on the floor of my coop. It's fine for me and my flock. Although, recently I've been reading a lot of articles about dirt/sandy floors for coops. What do you prefer?

Deep littercwith pine shavings is a good solid solution. I too have a linoleum floor in one of my coops.... wish i thought it thru. Never again... any tear or seam allows whatever to stay there forever...
Diligent application of pine shavings is excellent.... non toxic, odorless and easily handled and composted..

I'd use cottonseed hulls if I could find any. I live in a state where they grow a buttload of cotton, but all the gins are at least 50 miles from me.

My original chicken coop was a small building built out of scrap lumber, it had a dirt floor. and I'll tell you I'd never do that again! Not only is it impossible to really get clean but it makes for easy rodent entry. After a few years with that we decided to convert one of our unused pig sheds into a chicken house. This building has a concrete floor, as was used to house pig originally. Generally I like to put a layer of hay on top of the concrete, which has worked out well, and my guinea keets, and ducks like to use it to nest in. The really nice thing about it is it's easy to clean up when it's time. Fork out the dirty hay and if needed hose it down. We are talking about adding on to the coop. If we do that the new portion would probably have a slightly raised wood floor.

We prefer hay for the reason of cost. We live in the quoted Horse Capital area of Florida. Tons of last years coastal Bermuda hay and even more 2 year old hay round bales selling for 3 to 5 bucks. So cheap we can afford buying a big stock pile.
And can afford re bedding the coops twice a week. Bed the pigs, goats, turkeys etc.
Looking at it at a cost effectiveness standpoint.
Note: the dirty cleaned out bedding builds up fast.
