coop floor

i am a newbie... my ladies are almost ready to move into their coop in my barn..
(currently hanging in my basement. i kind of like hearing them talking at night, but there are 30 of them, and its getting kinda crazy!)
I am relieved to know that I am not the only one here who's chicks live in the house...ours are in the utility room in a brooder I made from an old kitchen cabinet...though truth be told I am surfing BYC to avoid working on the coop... But the roof coat it a great idea and we have some left from another project so I can keep it in my $100.00 coop budget.

they are cute in the house..
they have gotten really adventurous though, and now are cruising all over the basement
(aka pooping everywhere!)
i still like it because i find their little voices soothing to listen to.

it will definitely be good for them to move outside.
i have absolutely no idea how to transition them. i guess i will read up on that too...

i was planning on putting their heat lamp and brooder in part of the coop until they get used to it.

i read some of your other posts. i have only little runty chick too. somehow she is my favorite. she likes to watch tv with my daughter, on her shoulder . She wraps the bottom of her in a paper towel as anit-poop insurance, and they hang out in the den. i was worried until i realized she was eating and everything the same as the others, she is just tiny. She is a buff Polish. really sweet.

is your dog a komondor???
i have an australian shepard. nobody in ct that i know of has komondors...i hear they are very protective.

I find my runt chicken very aggressive and annoying but she is defiantly "the chicken boss" in the flock.

I noticed you beautiful dog in your avatar! We do have a Komondor his photos are my album. The avatar is Phoebe, one of our Puli's. Our Kom is scary protective but he is 12 years old so as to be provoked to be outright aggressive. Even for those who have the time and energy for the grooming, neither Pulik or Komondore are breeds for the weak willed or faint of heart.

Hi Jack- can you please tell me the specifics of Blackjack #57 you got at Lowe's- I am on Kauai and have no Lowe's so need to try to find a substitute. All I find are rubberized products that are made for metal or aluminum, and I can't find one that would stick to a wood floor. Please advise. Thanks so much, degabu

I used the roofing material to seal my floor in my coop. However it seems to be taking a VERY long time to completely dry. I completed it Saturday evening, when I was checking on it Tuesday even it was still soft to the touch! Anyone have any ideas on how long this should take to dry?
