Our coop was finished being built a few days ago. It is home now. It is beautiful for what we were looking for!

I was curious though.... how well does bedding with their poo and such do on the wood floor? I am assuming in a year or so it would start having a lot of damage? I don't want that.

I was curious about putting down the stick tile before I get the couple chicks and ducks out in there. That way it'll be an easier clean and hopefully protect the floor a bit.

My dad agreed on the stick tile and he also bought me a few HUGE heavy duty plastic sheets to cut to size and lay down ontop of the tile just as an extra barrier.

Now nest box bedding... what is best to use in there? The shavings I will be using for the main coop or some hay/straw? We have our own straw we dry out... would that be okay to pick some up and shake it out?

Some people put tile or vinyl in the coop but I disagree with having any type of slick floor covering. I well built floor with pressure treated wood will last more than your lifetime and longer! Hopefully your floor is up off the ground a little to keep it dry. You can add pine chip bedding to fill a large coop for under 10 bucks. You can use straw or hay but you find that pine chips works much much better with solidifying poo and ease of shoveling. Pine chips also work very well in the nest boxes. I add a carpet remnant on the wood bottom of the nest boxes and then pine chips. Your straw will be OK in the run.
