coop flooring

i built a 12'x7' coop for my chickens but was wondering what i can put on the ground that would help them. it is just dirt now but they are eating it away. i know thats what they do but do i add anything ie, dirt, sand, wood chips?

Hay and woodchips are good to keep chickens from ruining the ground. And chickens can also search for bugs within the hay or woodchips.

weve tried a few different things and so far woodchips/tanbark have worked best, our girls love digging around in it and on a wet day it provides good drainage

sand is good for drainage, also pine shavings and some Dri-stal ( a horse product) that keeps odors down.
