Coop Flooring

Sand is fabulous! I've used sooo many different things and sand really is the best. It drains well if it gets wet, and what I do is I rake it up daily to get out the poo and debris. The chickens seem to really like it too. It doesn't seem to get stinky, either.

for my coop. For the run I use natural sand from HD. I rake it everyday to mve it around and clean up their poo. I also add agricultral lime and rake that in to cut doen on the odor. If I get a fly problem, I also hang a fly bag. It cfilled up with 200 or so flies in 2 weeks time.

I am a big fan of any sort of garden waste I can get my hands on. The chickens eat what they want. The rest gets mixed in with the poop and eventually composted. I do put a bit of sand in there around the door and edges and they love to scratch through that.

We use sand. Had a truck load brought in when building out the run. The area is large enough that the chickens can do their thing, while time and the elements do the cleanup. I'm lazy about the operational aspects. Much prefer the designing.
