Coop gems -what is the one feature of your coop you couldnt live without?

@My2butterflies, I scoop poop twice a day (usually only once in the coop as they don’t spend a lot of time in there), so the sand stays pretty clean. I add a bad of Sweet PDZ every once in a while when the level on the poop deck seems to need it. I’ve not had to add any on the floor of the coop or in the run yet. I think we will probably get a dump truck load of natural, coarse river sand this summer and shovel some more in the run. The girls are pretty messy when they scratch around and dust bathe, so quite a bit of sand ends up outside the run. That whole area is sand covered, so it’s not a big deal, but I’d like to get the rototiller in the run and mix everything up then add a ton or two more to freshen it up in there.

That’s sounds nice and easy! Looks very tidy too!

My favorite part of my pigeons coop is that I built in a small door in the floor. when I clean the coop, I just take it out the floor and then move it out from under the coop. It's super handy.

Getting rid of everything and keeping it simple. I had poop boards, a ramp, food and water, nest boxes, everything. I got rid of it all and now there's just 1 nest box and a roost plus water since I live in the desert. I added 2 nest boxes outside the coop and these are used regularly, the one in the coop only once in a while.

What’s your process for tidiness under the roost? Love a pic

Did you quote the wrong person? I didn't provide a pic.
I'll answer anyway... I use deep litter under the roost. I just stir in the poop and wet the floor once a week to encourage composting.

Because you live in the desert....that could be disastrous in other climes ;)
Still gotta encourage breakdown of the litter and moisture is necessary. I actually learned that from someone in Florida so...Perhaps other climates would require moisture less often but it's still needed or the litter is just a smelly, dusty mess.

It's funny, but I started with poop boards too and got rid of them. I realized that having poop boards and a dirt DLM floor was redundant and unnecessary!
