coop gravel and sand for floor

We are building a coop and planned for the floor to have hardware cloth, gravel and sand on top. Any recommendations for what size or type of gravel and sand to use? Thanks.

seems to me the sand & gravel would fall through the HC floor, but, I use construction/concrete sand. We got it at the local Sand & Gravel place, they sell all kinds of lanscape, driveway gravel & so forth.

$7 or so to fill a 100sf. hen house
