Coop heaters

x2. Is your generator hooked up to the house and goes on automatically? Is it serviced regularly? Gas or propane stored and available? That's the biggest issue with heating; it can go out!
I lost over twenty ready-to-hatch chicks in an incubator years ago, when the power went out while I was at work. Bad luck, and not going to kill adult birds so fast, but just be prepared for that power outage.

All very good points but when the temps drop to -40C with the wind chill, I am happy to have a heater in the coop. It would not be a problem to move my flock of 8 into the gas heated garage with the Coi if the power ever did go out. Power loss rare in my part of the country. All possibilities considered. Thanks
