I decided I’m going to include silkies in the coop/area with my brown layers (Orpingtons, Americanas, barred rock, Wyandottes). Being they have issues with being picked on, I’m wondering if anyone has insight... would be advised to include a section in my hen house specifically for them (lower portion, perhaps under main poop board?)... or to section off my main run for them, their personal small coop and their run? My hen house is 8x8 and I can section off a space if needed inside. I’m figuring 4-5 sq ft/bird

I wouldn't combine silkies with standard breeds, especially those breeds. They will be bullied. They are best kept in their own coop.

That’s what I thought. If kept in the main coop, I would section them off so they would have their own part of the coop with their own run, if that makes sense. Would that still be a wrong move? Sorry if it’s a stupid question! I’m new to chickens

That's would work fine. The thing with silkies is many act a bit odd. That along with their crests will attract bad attention from the others. There are some big silkies that can handle themselves in a mixed flock, and many roosters can handle themselves, but most silkies need protection from the bigger birds.

Thanks so much for your help!!
