Sigh oh the issues in chicken world are never ending..apparently.
I’ve got a flock of 27 hens with 2 roosters. They have a large coop, yard and run. (They also free range in the evening). Then I’ve got a bachelor flock of 4 roosters, coop yard, run and they too free range (at different times than my main flock).
Here’s the issue: I have a big Wyandotte rooster, BIG. He’s blind in one eye, and has a major limp. He was born this way but it didn’t become really apparent until after puberty. He’s almost 2. Fred, doesn’t appear to be in pain, he eats drinks, chickens around. The vet doesn’t think he’s in pain. The point is Fred isn’t going to be culled. We’ve raised him from hatch, and he’s a really good rooster. The problem is the other roosters in the bachelor flock, basically just kicked him out and run him off. I’m guessing it’s because he’s disabled. I’m wanting to make him his own coop and yard, run area. I’ve got a few hens that really fancy Fred, so I was thinking about just having a mini flock with Fred. What the best way to do that? Have his coop and run attached to my main coop? Or a completely separate area for them? I have plenty of space, a couple acres to work with. I’ve got wood, wire mesh, netting… I’ve got the supplies I just don’t want to regret doing something when another way would’ve been better. Any ideas or suggestions?

I've always housed my separate flocks where they can see each other and interact when free ranging without too much problems. I personally would keep everything next to each other for easier care.
