That's the point. You have to have something to kill the mites. But, I don't think, in your situation, that it will ever rid them of the mites, it would only help reduce them. Good Luck.
I know, everytime I see my chickens I just have to turn my head to keep from crying ...
Do you think if I bought a HUGE bag of DE and just put it EVERYWHERE that it would help? Can I dust the chickens with it? I've also heard that they can eat it?
I put it in the holes where they take their dust baths. I rake up the bedding and put DE down and then 7 dust and then the pine shavings. So far no mites.
The new girls in quarantine are looking pretty good so far but I also put 7 and DE in the next boxes I made for them and then put the bedding in.
Not supposed to use cedar shavings is my understanding.
Some folks don't believe DE works.
I use it anyway and like to believe it does.
I also use 7 dust.....because it does work.
They say use vaseline on their legs to kill mites.
Also, WD40 as in or really. Smothers them.
Do a search on mites and find out what your options really are......
You might talk to her about wearing really good quality dust masks out there. It would keep you from breathing in dusty air.
I'm sorry that this did not go well for you. I agree that 100 birds is a lot to take care of, though. It would be a lot for me, even.
Remember, some day you will be an adult. Then, you can have as many chickens as you can take care of (so long as you are careful about choosing a place to live!)
I would not put WD40 on a bird. I might be tempted to use it in cracks that you can't get to with anything else, though, especially if you can't use Sevin.
