When I built my first coop and run I ran heavy galv. wire 1 ft in the ground all around the run. Built my first coop out of treated plywood just a simple 8X8 coop then put Galv. tin 1ft in the ground around it. It took alot of digging but I haven't lost a hen yet to wild animals. We have wolves coyote's bear, bobcat and DOGS all around us. The second one I built was 16X16 with 4 rooms one for feed and tools one for a nursery and two for the big girls I built it out of metal and put metal in the ground 1 ft on the building and the run. Did have a bear try to get into the wood coop tore some of the metal off the bottom but didn't get in.
