Coop location and predators ?

Trying to decide where to put my coop and run , the shady areas are further away from the house along the wood line, but closer to house is almost no shade. At night are predators even concerned with , or leery of being close to the house ? The dog (English shepherd ) sleeps on the porch and is on a 100' run, but the wood line is at least 200 yds from the porch. If the coon and opossums are going to try to get in either way I'd rather have it back in the shady area. Any advice ? -Thanks

If it gets hot there in the summer, you'll want shade for your coop. If you make it secure, and lock the birds in at night, the varmints will not be able to get them.

I would use that shade if you can. You probably aren't gaining any protection by putting it closer to the house anyway, so just go a good job sealing it up wherever it is.
