Hi all. I am curious if it would be a good idea to back my coop up into/under the trees where they meet the backyard. Then I would have the run extend into the yard where it is sunny. I'm thinking it would keep them cooler at night in the summer if the coop was covered by a canopy of trees.

I have a picture of my yard but I don't know how to post it here?!?!?

We live in Texas, so we're building our coop in the shade of our garage. The girls will get full sun in the morning when it's not too hot, but most of the afternoon they will have plenty of shade. One edge of the run will have sun until late afternoon.

One disadvantage of building the coop directly under trees especially large mature trees, LIMBS!!! Keep in mind your coop and run can be destroyed by falling limbs during thunderstorms or ice storms. (speaking from experience here)
I suggest you build it so that the run and coop are shaded say from 11:00 am to sunset in the summer months. This will allow room for large falling limbs.
