Coop Odor

Yep, I third the hay thing... it will absorb odor and unless you are raking it out VERY often it will stink worse than if you just let the poo sit on the ground.

I vote for the other suggestions - shavings if a small area, or the drysorb.

Yikes!
I created my own odor problem! Silly, silly woman!

The chickens were finally getting to bare stems in the bermuda grass portion of their chunnel. I know how tough bermuda is, so I thought, "I'll just water it and throw a little organic fertilzer down, spray it with seaweed, and in a couple of days it'll sprout right out!"

Please, DO NOT try this at home!!!!

What was I thinking? Watering the ground under the bermuda runners brought out the...um...err...uh...."piquant bouquet" of chicken manure.

Prior to that, it was a dry, odor-free run.

I guess I'll have to let the Bermuda die, and just use my "growing" frames. They aren't working as well as I had hoped, though; I think the situation is just too shady for things to sprout and thrive enough to grow fast.

This post makes me so glad that was able to go the portable coup and run route. I still want a big coup and yard, but the DW isn't going to let that happen.

Hope you get the odor problem under control!
