Suburban chicken farmers - coop ideas

This shows the air exchange on a calm day in the winter. I could barely feel on my face and a strip of plastic grocery bag tied to a stick didn't clearly move so I tried again with a strip of kleenex. That showed there is movement in at the bottom and out at the top.

It also might show the metal lathe covering the opening of the south side of the chicken's space of the shed.

The nest boxes are in the picture too. I built a "table" out of scrap lumber to set the crates on. I hoped they would use the space under the nest boxes as floor space but the didn't use it much. They did use the space under the poop board often.

Hi and welcome! Suburban chicken mama as well in Cincinnati so not as mild as SF. We built diy coop & run 1.0 for 3 hens, lost 1, then added 4 babies so expanded just the hen house portion on the inside for coop 2.0. I can add more detail if you have questions! Coop 2.0 is 4x12 with elevated 4x6 hen house. Adjacent run is 9x6.5. Before and after pics below.

You also mentioned starting with 2 then adding 2. I went through my first and only flock integration last summer and I still don't have the energy to write up that very, very long post 😆 . Someday.
