I'm planning on building a coop my question is the location I want to put the coop has been used as landscape around my house and we use cedar mulch is this gonna be a problem?

It is generally felt here that cedar shavings should not be used for litter in a coop. However, some people use them anyway, or a mix containing them. Really, it has to do with the amount of fumes they put out, and the aount of fresh air the birds get. Pine shavings are very commonly used, and they have some pine smell to them. I'd probably remove the cedar before I built the coop, but other than that, I wouldn't worry about it unless there is a very strong cedar odor.

The only problem with chips that have been laying outside is that they may contain mites. I seem to have problems with mites in wood piles and chips around here that lay outside for long periods of time. Bugs may not harbor in fresh cedar chips, but they might in old chips. Just be aware. :)
