Coop placement relative to the house?? (Smell? Noise?)

Hi, I use to have pens all around the house. The roosters do make a lot of noise, if you have a lot of them like I do. After awhile, you kind of get use to it and it does not bother you. The smell is not too bad, as long as you keep the pens cleaned.

In my experience, the wild birds (crows and cardinals especially) are louder than my flock. As for smell, I have never noticed a smell, even inside my coop. I have shavings under the roost, I clean up poop every few days, add some new shavings each time I do.

My first coop is closer to the house, on advice like that you've read in this thread.

First off, my coop does not smell, I only have four chickens and they free range. Something about having chickens poop all over the grass helps to keep anything from smelling and keeps the grass greener.

According to my city ordinance coops need to be at least 15 feet from any dwelling.
