Coop power

Sure! It doesn't get as cold here -- we normally have a week or two with nights that get down to around -8F. The coldest it gets is -20F but that's rare. My extension cord is 14-gauge and 50 feet long, I believe. I use removable plant ties to tie the extension cord to the fence posts. The outlet I plug it into is inside my greenhouse and I run it out through a gap in the door at the top so it never touches the ground.

Here is how I run it into the coop. It goes underneath the nesting box, up the side, and through a small recess I drilled at the top. I can get more photos later if you'd like.

Thank you so much, I appreciate your reply. The picture was very helpful. If you have the time, I would certainly appreciate more photos. This is my first winter with my bird and Halo is my only bird. I'm using the Cozy Coop panel and the distance I have to travel with it is about 50 feet. I plan to get a 12 gauge or 10 gauge cord, if I can find one. I plan to use it only once the temperatures get under 0 degrees F. I wouldn't at all, but with temps as low as I get, and Halo being my only bird, he doesn't have anyone to snuggle for warmth. You've been so helpful and I'm thankful for all advice. :)

Sorry I haven't gotten more photos yet. I've been busy getting ready for winter and it gets dark so early now! 😕 I will try to get some photos soon!

I'm not sure you'll need that heavy-duty of a cord. I bought a 12-gauge and was surprised by how thick and heavy (and expensive) it was. It would have been difficult to use in my situation, so I ended up sending it back and getting the 14-gauge.

I completely understand. It's crazy how little daylight we have anymore. Haha....I know at my age, I should be used to it, but it seems to get harder every year. I think you may have a good point on the cord. Oh, oh yes, very expensive. I really appreciate all of the advice you have given me. I hope you have a wonderful winter and enjoy your holidays. It was so nice chatting with you. Halo thanks you, too. :)

No problem! Hope you have a wonderful winter as well!

@HalosHaven I finally took some more photos of my extension cord setup. Hope this helps. The cord is plugged into a GFCI outlet (a must!) and my netting fence is NOT electrified.

Thank you so much for the extra photos! I bought the 12 gauge cord and am planning to hang it next weekend in a very similar manner, using your photos as reference. My bird and I thank you very much. :)
