It seems any deeper and it would be pretty hard to reach into it to clean. It would also be more expensive to build as you'd have to cut more plywood for sheeting. Right now it is easy to reach the back wall by hand or with a rake to clean the bedding up.

I think I was into this for little under 200 dollars and about 6 hours work. Might have been a little quicker with less beer and talking. That's Alaska price for lumber as well. I paid 14.50 a sheet for the half inch 4' x 8' plywood and went through 5 sheets.

PS- I sold frankencoop for 75 bucks on craigslist and the buyer drove 50 miles to grab it.

That looks mighty fine! How much do you charge an hour? Do you travel?

Only 6 hours to build?! I think I've spent close to that just painting stuff for the coop., and I don't even have beer to blame...

One question though, what do you plan on doing for ventilation? Or do you not need much because you live in Alaska?

The door is finished for now.

I think it would be better to use a piece of clear plexiglass or lexan for light but this is what I could scrounge up for now.

Finally found some plexiglass for a window and a clear door. I'm gonna try to stain the window frame this afternoon but it might just make a mess as our temps are already in the 40's.

I thought I answered the size question but I guess not- the coop is 4' x 5' x 4' ish high.

Got my first flyer at 2.5 months. I don't think she has any idea what to do with her new skill. She looked pretty surprised when she ended up on coop.

This is wonderful! It's both pretty and functional!
I have one question, How do you ventalate? I couldn't see any vent systems from the pictures.
I think I might have to use some of your Ideas for my new coop. I hope you don't mind (;
