My DH is converting an old shed for my coop. My question is this: I live in PA. Does the shed need heated or insulation? The feed store I ordered my chicks from said no. Just making sure he is not just an old time farmer saying "ah, they'll be fine".

Or am I just a worried soon to be new mommie?

I am all for insulation! It doesn't cost that much and it will help keep the girls warmer in the winter. I plan on using fiberglass insulation when I start building my coop this weekend. Also, if you insulate, you probably won't need to heat it in the winter. Or, on especially cold nights, just a heat lamp should be fine in an insulated coop.

Wow! So maybe in my area this is a matter or personal choice? I made sure I picked breeds that said they were cold hardy. Then again I would not want to freeze my butt off!
