Coop Renovation Progress [pic heavy]

It’s been awhile...gardening has been taking up most of my “nice days” in between the rains. But...it’s painted!!!

(I used barn paint from Menards. Two coats provided great coverage)

(Matches the shed!)

The chicks are two weeks old today. They got some outside time after I finished painting the trim.

(One of the mystery chicks, with a Golden Comet and [I’m guessing] lavender Orpington and unknown blue feathered-feet)

(Sicilian buttercup. Wasn’t excited about her as one of my hatchery picks but she’s grown on me a lot)

My to-do list includes making the lumber shopping and cut list for the run, and installing the roost in the coop.

Yes, one of my straight run picks so very well could be. My husband is actually hoping it is a roo :idunno but I’ve also read they tend to be notoriously confusing to sex when young? Only time will tell!
I think hackle/saddle feathering at 3-6 months can get sketchy....
...but lots of red in comb and wattles at 3-6 weeks is a pretty good bet.

Sunday was move-in day for the chicks! I still have some things to work on but I am happy with how things turned out.

(Ta-dah! You can see the beginnings of the run to the left)

(A decent ramp is on the to-do list. Not many chicks have ventured up to the roost yet)

(Re-did the window screen before they moved in with hardware cloth, deck screws, and fender washers)

They are enjoying 4ish hours of free-ranging every evening and will continue to do so until the run is finished. All but 4 made it back inside by themselves last night!

Any Idea what breed that last pullet is, I’m a sucker for Calico, I actually just picked up some 6 week old bantam calico Cochins and they are already the sweetest!
