Today I started on another project.

Some people would see this as a pile of old junk. Not me.

I saw the perfect materials for a brooder.

Not quite done. I got a layer of primer and one coat of paint done. Then the wind kicked up. Going through the second dust bowl tomorrow. I'll finish the paint tomorrow and put a lid on it.

995 that is one very nice coop! I'm a big fan of coops that look like the ones from "the good ole days". To have an original is just great! One idea you may consider since you're not going to need all that space with just a few chickens.... Make a "feed room" just beside the entrance door to store supplies where the chicks can't get into them. You can make it "modular" so the walls can be removed if you add more chickens.

It's wonderful that you've been able to save a building with some history and have fun and a feeling of accomplishment in the process! You seem to have a good eye for re-use. Very impressive. I'm sure the chickens will give you lots of eggs to thank you!

No coop update. Weather hasn't been great, and I've been very busy.

I did finish my brooder though.

Painted the inside.

Cut a piece of pig fence to length and added chicken wire for the lid.

Made a few hinges out of plumber's tape.

Add three screw and three bungee cords to keep the lid closed and your done.

you are awesome. I love how you've approached this, and how little waste there's been. I'm building my coop out of reno scraps and materials demo'd from our house earlier. I think it could be QUITE nice! Yours however WILL be quite nice
