Coop roof help!

We are in California Central coast area and we don't get snow or extreme weather and we only have two hens, they free range all day in our fenced yard

Cute!! I live in Missouri so lots of crazy weather and strong winds anytime of the year up to 80 mph or so, 75mph gusts just last week. A bamboo roof wouldn't be an option, though a neat idea.

You could make one wall taller than the other and slope the roof.

Thanks one wall 6foot (raised 4ft tall coop) the other wall 7ft and that will extend out another 4 feet beyond the 6ft coop. But not sure how to put the rafters up etc.

I bet you'll do fine. I like the idea of those metal ties ..(I'm a 66 yr old grandma and if I lived a little closer, I'd come help you!)
I don't know what the plans look like. If you can take a pic or scan, I am guessing you'll have all kinds of good advice coming your way....Good luck!

Front 2 inches taller than back, ran a stringer every 23", used corrugated tin roofing panels from HD (one panel is a sort of plastic that is clear for light in the coop) and the self threading screws with an o-ring sold right beside the panels for securing them to the 2X4s. Took less than an hour to screw the panels down once I figured the correct stringer spacing

As far as the run goes it's uncovered. If they don't want to get wet when it rains, they can go in the coop or not. That's their choice. As long as I stay dry I don't much concern myself if they want to get wet.

Sue, Pretty country down your way. Am going to recruit the 15yo grandsons to help with the roof--I have 4 within an hour of me Holt and Holden. Baseball will be over the weekend of 4 of July if the weather co-operates so I won't have to compete with practice and game schedules. LOL.

I think I'm doing the usual and overthinking this project. The run will be covered for shade as my yard gets the hot summer sun most of the day. So in going through plan after plan on this site and lots of "roof" plans found with searches: I think here is the plan and recommendations here:

Simply attach exterior plywood to the cross beams in the run. The front will be approx. 7.5 feet with the back 6ft tall. Then cover with white galvanized metal (same price as the standard) as it will fit the neighborhood better. So now to draw up the plan and figure out the rest of the materials, then go shopping yet again.

Now to build it!! Another interesting journey! I need to have it look decent as in a nice little neighborhood and make me feel good.

Mostly just me with no experience building a building unless I get volunteers LOL. Youngest grandson's birthday party is Sunday, maybe someone will. Hints to everyone!! I get the brooder set up done first as chicks will be here next week, ship date 05-31. So back to drawing out the rest of my plans in detail so I can have most everything here by Sat. The hardware cloth should be here tomorrow, ordered on Amazon.

OK so Chicken Coops for Dummies is scaring me on a shed roof. I think it should be simple but it looks rather complicated there. Any suggestions on making this easy? My coop will be 4x6 and the covered run 8X10 with the coop enclosed in it. I'm doing most of this myself--67 yo gramma with no building from scratch experience. I don't have a miter so am thinking using those metal connectors of some sort. I'm starting building the coop frame this weekend.

you are doing a great job.... im impressed.... use corrogated steel roof worked for my 10 hens!
