Coop roof - metal, shingles, rolled asphalt? (Michigan)

We're converting an old shed into our coop, and are at the point of deciding on roofing material.

We actually have about 12 ft of corrugated metal sections (but would need a few more as the roof is 16 ft wide), currently on top of the shed's lean-to (which will become the run). My husband is interested in trying shingles, as it's a skill he thinks would be handy to learn. We also saw rolled asphalt at the lumber store last week that looked intriguing. We would then leave the metal roof on the run.

We live in mid-Michigan so we have a variety of temperatures and precipitation.
Thoughts on cost, ease of installation, etc?
No matter what we choose, do we need to put something on top of the plywood before the roofing?
If we go the shingles route, what other supplies do we need?
How much of an overhang do we need on each side?

So many questions, we've never done anything like this before!

I used asphalt shingles. First time I ever did any roofing, but I got to watch the guys do my house, so I learned. Tyvek or similar material, edge trim around the perimeter, shingles bottom to top, and if applicable, ridge shingles. It matches the house and has never leaked.

I know a lot of folks use metal, and hey, it’s easier. It just gets hot under that stuff.

We also made a coop from a shed. The shed roof is shingled. The attached run has corrugated metal roof which keeps out rain, the snow in winter and (to my great surprise) it doesn't get any hotter in run now than it did when it was just a wire top.
