I have 2 Wyandottes, 2 jubilee orpingtons, 3 mix bantams, 2 red sexlinks and 2 black sexlinks. I think the bantams will be fine as they fly better than the bigger hens but just want to make sure. That should be fine for most breeds. What breeds do you have (or are planning to get)?
Yep, your roost height is good!I have 2 Wyandottes, 2 jubilee orpingtons, 3 mix bantams, 2 red sexlinks and 2 black sexlinks. I think the bantams will be fine as they fly better than the bigger hens but just want to make sure.
lol new chick mom worries, thanks for the feedbackYep, your roost height is good!
Hadn’t thought about that, that’s a good idea. I was thinking a whole bar but a box or crate would work great. Thanks for the input.I wonder about the space available for them to get down safely. My roosting bars are about the same height (as your lower bars) and I fixed an upside-down milk crate (easy for their feet to grip) to one side that they can use as a step.
Half the time they fly up (RIRs and banties), but usually use the step getting down.
