I have five little bantams and today I cleaned my chicken coop for the first time in a long time. The floor is just regular dirt so it was all packed down and when I raked the poo, the dirt came out in chunks. I have been wondering about putting sand in the bottom or maybe packaged topsoil from walmart. Or maybe both with a little wooden 2x4 to keep the sand and topsoil separated. Or maybe somehig better would work? I have no idea what to use that will be good for them and also easy to keep clean. I live in a HOT city. Their coop is in the shade but it still is really hot during the summer.

I dont have any idea's. We get lot's of rain here and my run is covered, I use straw. I use to use pine shavings but it didn't work well for my set up. Good luck, hopefully someone will come along and give you their thoughts.
