Coop/Run in-progress - Pic Heavy!

....thank you. Hadn't thought of that! Good news is they are plastic and should clean off easily, but I'll remember to take them out from now on.

I keep a fold-up chair in my coop. I fold it up and lean it against the wall when I'm done visiting...no roosting...no poopy chair.
Please take this in the spirit in which it was intended...lol. My gosh...with all the work above the coop you've done to keep your little birds dry and comfy, I couldn't help but think "Dang...it would have been simpler just to move them into the house."

('cause I thought I remembered you saying it was a "spare" house or something????)

fldiver97, thank you for that suggestion. I hadn't thought of stumps or branches....I was all about painted, properly-placed 2x4's and the like! I bet they'd love something more natural.

BankerJohn, the names were a caveat if my wife got chickens.....she could have them, but I got to name them.

teach1rusl....you might be on to something there....it would have been easier to just move them into the house!
And I like the folding-chair idea better than having to move the plastic ones around. I appreciate that suggestion.

We had a lot of rain this past weekend, and it appears that the moat is working. The run stayed dry! *happy dance* The girls are also not having any trouble going to roost in the coop when it gets dark. We just go out after the sun goes down and close the pop door. I was dreading having to 'teach' them to go in every night.
We've also been slowly introducing our two month-old Wellies to the outside flock. It's not going smashingly, as our LB, Kiev, is trying to dominance-mount them as well as going after the backs of their heads. We don't let that happen for long....I know a pecking order needs to be established, but the Wellies are quite a bit smaller than our other girls. So, for now, we have part of the run screened-off and let the Wellies run about in there. Everyone can see everyone else, but not get to each other.

Just a quick update, and I apologize for the lack of photos. I'll try to remedy that this evening.

We moved the two Welsummer chicks out into the run permanently. I built a 4X8 'cage' for them so they'll have a secure place to live until they get a wee bit bigger. I know the pecking order has to be established, but we'd like for them to be at least a little bigger before we let them lose in the run with our three other girls. The few supervised visits had gone pretty well, but our Light Brahma, Kiev, looks like she was trying to eat them.

I know it was the dominance thing, but she's about 2/3rds again the size of the Wellies. Kind of an unfair match-up just now. The two others do a bit of pecking, but nothing like Kiev. So, the Wellies are in a hardware-cloth enclosed mini coop/run for the moment. everyone can see everyone else, but they can't get to each other. We're hoping that a few weeks of this will make the transition a little smoother once we fully integrate them.

And on the plus side, this means we'll have a 4X8 mobile run so we can put a few girls at a time out in the yard to play around!

Sorry for the delay.....this is the coop/run within a coop/run.

Four foot by two foot by two foot, with a small section blocked off for their roosting quarters. They seem to be enjoying it so far!
