Currently we have 3 standard pullets and 4 bantams. All are around 18-19 weeks old. We purchased 4 more standard pullets (2 at 2 weeks, 2 at 4 weeks). My husband built two nice coops for our original little backyard flock. He is currently constructing a third for the new chicks. My chickens roam the lawn most of the day, and are only confined when I have to run errands. Recently, we've been noticing a significant hawk presence. For several days, as many as 4 hawks have been circling in close proximity. My chickens do have good cover, and my 2 bantam cockerels always sound an alarm; however, I am concerned as the hawks circled yesterday whilst I was outdoors with the chickens. I am contemplating an eventual 8 x 12 coop to house all of the birds, and a nice outdoor run which allows safe outdoor access when we're away for a few hours. -still plan to let them roam in the lawn for 5 - 6 hours per day (with supervision). What size of run would be sufficient for 7 standard birds, and 4 bantams? I don't want them to be crowded, yet don't want to "overdo" it, either.
