I know this question has been done to death, but I can't find the specific information I need and I'm hoping someone can help me. I currently have 5 layers and one rooster. I also have 4 guinea hens but they are almost never confined. I have two coops one is 4' x 8' the other is 4'x6'. My run is an L shape and I'm no good with geometry but it's roughly 150 sq feet. Everyone free ranges on about 3 acres. I recently picked up 15 more layers (straight run) and lost 2. I can pick out at least 3 roos already and they won't be with us long. So that's possibly 10 more girls. Here's where it gets tricky. I ordered 25 freedom rangers who are currently brooding in my shed and are scheduled for freezer camp by the end of summer. How do you like that for chicken math? My question is is my current space going to suffice until processing day?

thanks so much!!

=6

plus four that don't count because they are not confined

I have two coops one is 4' x 8'
32 sq ft
the other is 4'x6'.
24 sq ft
32+24=56
56/4sq ft per bird=14 large fowl with room already constructed
My run is an L shape and I'm no good with geometry but it's roughly 150 sq feet.
150+56=206
206/4sq ft per bird=51

10 more girls.
6+10=16

. I ordered 25 freedom rangers
16+25=41

If you can leave your birds in the run without predator losses you will be fine, but I would always let them out to free range, not enough room otherwise. (my opinion is not worth a cup of coffee

Thanks ocap! that is just what I needed someone to do! I can't get my head around all the numbers. They can be outside almost all day everyday as long as someone is on the property. I have some "helpers" who have offered to come chicken sit when I need to grocery shop or run other errands a couple times a week. the meaties are a group project so i have a lot of people invested in their well being.
