Hi i am new to chickens and i want to keep four of them in my back yard (not free range because both my neighbors have dogs) i saw a coop on the DIY section on the home depot website (pictures below). i was wondering if i could keep four hens inside it during the winter (i live in the middle part of ny state and it gets below 0 at night). on top of that i was wondering if i should put a tin roof over half my run which is going to be 12 ft by 16 ft to keep cool and out of rain and snow. thank you in advance

very nice coop. I would think they would be ok in the winter, you have to keep an eye on their wattles and combs so they don't freeze (apply vaseline)..pack it with shavings/hay.

I would also put some sort of full or partial roof on your run to keep the weather out and provide shade.
Nice coop..

thanks for the advice its always nice

You might want to put a small step on the front of the nest boxes so when they lay eggs they won't roll out in the coop. They will also want to jump up on the top of the nest boxes. A sloped board would keep them off so you don't have to scrape poo off all the time.

Looks like a neat coop but I would be eyeing the playhouse in the background. :)
