Just my thoughts.
The best security is based on layers. Think of it as several different sized circles around a smaller circle in the center. As a predator (two legged or 4 legged) attempts to go thru your circles (layers) of security they can be either stopped or slowed down and you will have time to respond.
The small circle in the center is your first layer of security and should be the most secured area (your coop). This is where your money and time should be spent first. If you cannot afford an underground bunker made out of reinforced concrete 20 feet below the surface, then build what you can afford.
Then IF you still have money left then start on the second circle (run). Whether it’s a chicken wire fence, or a 20’ electrified wall with razor wire isn’t the main concern, just build what you can afford.
Still got money left? Then start on your 3rd layer (circle). Trail cams or video cameras around the perimeter of your property, watch dog or whatever you can afford.
4th layer (circle). Watch towers manned 24 x 7 with gun emplacements for ground defense. Throw in a few ground to air missiles for hawk attacks.
5th layer and so forth. Each security layer is a bit further away from the first layer (center circle).
The points I’m trying to make are:

The points I’m trying to make are:
- The more layers of security you have will increase the chance of your chickens surviving.
- Don’t spend money on the 2nd layer until your first layer (coop) is secure.
- They are only chickens (gasp! Did I say that out loud?). Don’t borrow money, don’t spend your life’s saving and retirement money to protect a $3 chicken. Just do what you feel is “reasonable” and affordable.
