Hello, I'm raising 50 Cornish X and 50 Buff Orpington's roosters for meat. They are 3 weeks old and we are in the process of building their coops. We will house them separately and they will have access to their own fenced in pasture that is 35'x150'. How big should we build their coop? I've read on BYC that minimum 2' and ideally 4' per bird and I'm wondering if we can get away with 2' per bird or less since they won't need nesting boxes.

Thanks,

iv heard that the accurate mesurements are 1 bird ever 2 square feet. I think as long as they have room to walk around they should be fine

Thanks for the reply. I've read that too but I was thinking that perhaps because they were roosters and wouldn't need laying boxes, etc that perhaps they wouldn't be in there as often or need as much room.

My coop is 12X12 with an 8X12 fenced yard. I have 53 CX in there right now that'll be 6 weeks old on Monday. It isn't the least bit crowded. I raised 75 Jersey Giant's in the same coop last year too. The Giants loved the yard and spent a lot of time out there, but except for a few, the CX are too lazy to leave the coop.
