Hubby and I are having a debate. We have a shed that is 4’x8’. Inside height is approx 7.5’ with a slope to about 6’ if you put the chickens up and have their nesting boxes so they stick outside, how many chickens can fit in this? They free range all day everyday with the exception of maybe 2 days a year.

If it was only used for sleeping and laying and you have no intention of ever confining them during the day even in the event of a predator attack where the likelihood of the predator returning is high, you could keep 8 to 10 in it. You must live somewhere where you get little to no snow.

Temperature is key here. If you live in snowy climates where they might not go out during the day, you could keep 4ish. In the south, bump that to 8. I’m In south Texas where chickens never go in the coop except to lay and sleep, so I would consider 10-12 in a 32 sq ft shed Coop.

There are no hard numbers, tooo many variables!

Temperature is key here.
TrueDat.

Even more important.
