Had a question? We are getting seven hens: two Buff Orpingtons, two Barred Rocks, and three Golden Laced Wyandottes. How big should the coop and run be? How many nesting boxes be? They are my first ever chickens, and will be housed in our backyard.

Minimum recommendations are generally 4sqft/bird in coop, 10sqft/bird in the run, 1 nesting box for every 4 hens.

8'w x 4'd coop would be 32sqft (and gives you the little bit of extra space in case you decide on internal nesting boxes) and sufficient for your 7 hens and you could attach in to an 8'wx10'l run to get your run space.
