Well, looks like I didn’t build my coop large enough! Oh well, but in my renovation, is the 4 square foot per chicken pretty accurate? And do I need more then 3 nesting boxes for 7 chickens?

3-4 sqft per bird is standard for chickens that are kept locked up the majority of the time or if you have cold months where the chickens won't want to come out.

4 sq ft per bird is the standard recommendation for temperate climates. If you're in an extreme cold climate, 6-8 sq ft is recommended due to the fact that the birds may not want to come out for extended periods of time.

For 7 chickens 2 nest boxes is enough, but 3 doesn't hurt as long as that doesn't eat up needed coop floor space.
