Coop size

10 square feet per bird is the general guideline.
I have a 12’ X 12’ “fly pen” connected to my 8’ X 12’ hen house (with a 4’ X 8’ board to catch droppings under their roost) for 12 hens and 1 rooster. That seems to be quite adequate. The droppings board seems to make mucking out the hen house a much simpler task.

Ok, we can’t free range because our dogs/cats will kill them, so how big of a run do you think will be appropriate?
Believe it or not, you can train your dogs and cats to leave the hens alone. I can raise day olds right in the laundry room and the cats never bother them. My dog, from 8 weeks was told to not look crosseyed at a chicken. My hens free range all day and are never bothered by my domestic animals, they are trained that way.

hey! I used 7$ 10 foot T posts, a huge package of zipties and Chicken wire to
erect a run around the coop. I nailed together some 1x4 to make a door and used a staple gun to staple
Chicken wire to the wood. I used extra large zip ties for hinges and attached it to a t post and a bungee cord to hold it shut against another t post. I only let them use this during the day and they coop
up securely at night. But it was very easy to do but time consuming because I did a really big one. It would keep the cats and dogs out (mine does) and you only “need” 4x10 tho bigger is always better.
But if I can build one anyone can :) lol
Youare a hero,
