My Coop
My Coop
I know that the recommended sq. footage per chicken in the coop is 4-5sq.ft/per. We are building a coop with a floor plan that is 12x6. That would mean that I could literally place 14 chickens in this coop at 5sq.ft per. That doesn't seem possible? I have 6 that I want to make as comfortable as possible. It's an All-in-One type coop. Is it too much space or is more better? 14 seems like way too many.

What is an AIO coop?

That's not enough sqft if you don't have a run, its usually 5ft +run space from what I've read :D

All-in-one would be hen house and run all together as opposed to tractor style or just hen house with separate run. that's just what we were calling it. ;)

I don't know where you live, but if it is a place that's snowy in the winter and your chickens will be indoors, you want to have plenty of space in the coop to avoid any behavior problems. We have a 5x6 coop and 5x6 run for 3 chickens. But we also have their food, water, 2 cans of stored food, nest boxes, etc in the coop, so the floor space gets taken up - so it really isn't that big.

And . . .
