Ok. My husband and I have had chickens for three years now. We love them. They are a lot of fun for the kids( just like having 11 small dogs) and you can't beat the fresh eggs. We live in Texas and you may have heard of the crazy amount of rain we have had. They have a nice 10 x 10 coop inside a large fenced pen. Up until now it has been great, but with all the rain the floor of their coop(dirt floor) has become GROSS! Between the tons of water and poop from them staying in out of the rain it is almost unbearable. We put down some kitty litter to try and soak up some of the nastiness, and that helped temporarily but it is still not pleasant. What can we put down to help decompose or "eat" the what is an the floor? Or what else can we do? Ultimately we would like to put down gravel/rock or commercial sand that could more easily be washed. We worry about putting it on top of the floor before it is cleaned. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
