That is actually pretty nice and the instructions are pretty decent I think even I could follow them and build it, I will have to run it by the wife and of course modify a little bit and add an outside run but it would definitely work.

just check around for plans, you can make it simple and still look nice. It doesn't have to be complicated either, hubby and I are not builders, but after looking at several plans we were able to build our own coop for about the same that the coop you found would have cost you.

I think your math is correct, but....your 25.6 X 25.6 does come out to 54 would be in inches....not square feet, right?

Yeah I was doing the /12 at the wrong point in my formula so it was throwing off the numbers.

25.6 x 25.6 = 655.36 square inches. 1 square foot = 144 square inches. So your 25 X 25 inch coop = 4.5 square feet of coop space. About the correct size for 1 large breed chicken.

You might want to rethink your coop size.

I agree and after looking around I'm leaning more towards building it myself, I don't build a lot so I'm sure my wife just isn't confident I can build one that she will not want to throw some camo net over to hide lol. I like the idea of building it myself because we have a nice 6'X8' (roughly) picked out that I would then be able to completely utilize which would make the chickens rather happy I would imagine. I'm actually pricing out the material cost right now and figuring out which design I want to copy so I can sell the wife on it.

You can make it 8 x 8 instead of 6 x 8 and save yourself some cuts on the plywood/lumber I have heard, since some of it comes in 8 foot lengths. Verify this first if you use this idea, but that is what I have read.

8X8 would be nice and might be workable in the space we have set for it, as long as it stays under 10X10 we don't need a permit.
