Coop Winterization

On the coops I covered a side in tarps or plastic I.leave one entire side open. For me that is the south side open ad North side covered.

Having it adjustable is extremely handy.

In your set up.....how do you keep it from catching the wind when you unroll it?

We are using grommets at the top, so probably the same. Sherrts are pretty heavy and moderate eind is not an issue, but for strong winds definitely they will need to be secured

Hello all. I have attached some photos of my coop for some advice. I am wondering about the ventilation and if this seems adequate or too much for winter?
Thank you for any advice.

It is probably best to start a new thread so more folks will see it. Click the link below and then the box that says "post thread". It will walk you through it.

We will need a lot more information about your flock in order to help. Please include the following information as well.

What part of the world are you in.
Dimensions of the coop (feet by feet is really helpful).
How many birds live in the coop.
Ages of the birds.
Breeds of the birds.
Whether they have a protected run so they don't get forced to stay in the coop during storms.

Have you had a chance to test this out yet? I know most marine vinyl is rated to -40 below but I’m interested to know how easy it is to handle in colder temps
Yes. So it was originally installed with only 2 grommets at the base and nothing in the sides. We had a storm with very strong winds (40-50 mph gusts) and I had left two of the panels open (my mistake). So the wind puhed from the inside out and the grommets at the base came undone.
No biggie, we added grommets to the sides and fixed the bottom. We lowered the panels to allow for a larger gap at the top for more ventilation too. Works great! The sand inside is super dry, the gaps allow enough ventilation for the run and the vinyl is holding up very well.

Was wondering the same....and how easily it might unroll in freezing temps.
It is not ment to be unrolled when frozen. It will hold the shape when cold and relax when warm. The vinyl we chose is crack resistant and rated for cold temperatures.
