I want to put a stationary coop (4x4 coop with 10x4 run) for 4 birds and I'd also like to let them free range, but I don't want to fence off our garden. We may not be in this house forever and the time and expense to protect the garden from chickens seems like a lot of work. What about letting them into a movable tractor for a few hours a day so they still get grass and such but can't get to my garden? Or is there a better solution?

I'm having my hubby make me a moveable pen, we have a large building that will be a coop but they're about 2 months old and though the weather is finally getting nice out it makes me nervous just to let them go. I have a nightmare of chicks running in all different directions. So free ranging WITH supervision. Keeps them safe from hawks, themselves, the garden etc
