And it has PAINT!! I am loving the red color! My son inside the coop is calling it his store.. and they have a "open" and "closed" sign they made.. So as we work.. we can place orders for screws, nails and levels!

Love it Heather!!!!!!!!!!

(That shot of the chickens looking at you is toooooo funny!!! Hehehehe)

I love the red, and now I'm just imagining it with all the cream colored trim you spoke of. I like coops that are pretty as well as practical.

Thanks Shannon.. Donald is building the windows with a double Plexiglas and they'll swing out.. he hasn't yet decided how he'll do the chickens door... He has the ramp piece.. I'll paint the ramp red also.. Color is spiced wine and is a paint and primer in one! Really a nice paint and when it was wet.. the boys thought it looked pinkish.. but as it dried darker. the red was gorgeous! Would love that color in my house!

Glad we read the article here on ventilation before we got more work done.. we did NOT know about that.. and are now making sure we have ventilation .. besides the windows that will all open with screens.. We are insulating the whole thing.. floors and walls.. b/c we do have some very cold days in the winter.

We are also thinking about the run... Maybe I should research or ask in another thread.. we will do a run that will be covered on top .. How high are most runs?..

Ok, I figured you were going to leave it open with chicken wire under the soffit area of the roof. That's how we did ours... so as to let air move freely, but block winds from getting in during the winter. Good ventilation is important... I know there is this HUGE page on here somewhere about ventilation and what is too little, and what is too much.... it was a good LONG read for me last year while we were building. Gotta keep that ammonia from building up.

Try just leaving some of the exposed coop open under the beams like we did. Just wire it in and reinforce it with 2x4s to strengthen the wire.

As for that red...in your house.... why not?! You aren't done painting inside yet are you? I though you still had more rooms to do? We still haven't painted our upstairs bath or our bedroom! And you've seen how much I've done around here.... after a year the last thing you'd think went undone would be paint!

Ok girl.... one day you need to fly out here and we need to have a paint party!!!!!!!!

yep.. after reading that ventilation thread and chatting with you.. i think that's what we are doing for ventilation (exposed beams).. It was good to come acroos that article before we covered up the beams.. I'm thinking for the gap at the roof just putting some type of mesh like you were talking about it.

It is a gorgeous red.. but I don't think it will work in the rooms i haven't painted yet.. Donald is building a shed.. so maybe I'll get to use it again there.

Thanks Larry!! I really hope we can finish this weekend!

R0011439.jpg

we hinged the windows to prop them up instead of opening side to side.. thought that would help to keep rain out and such.. run started

run framed out..

inside. we put 3 roosts.. and there are also 3 nesting boxes.. I'll get better pics tomorrow when they move in! yay!

Walls and floors are insulated.. since we have cold nights in the winter and even in the summer get into the 40's and 50's..

Thanks whispering winds!!! Its been a tiring but fun project to do together! we are ready for it to be done! a bit more trim work and a roost in the run.. we are sooooo close.. Can't wait for the chicks to get in the coop!!! They'll love it! way better than half a dog crate for a brooder!
