Coop

Fantastic thanks so much for the info I did think it would get to hot to completely enclose the top area as we are on the Sunshine Coast qld and is pretty warm at the moment. I will move around the boxes and roost today and keep the floor as it's easy to clean out. We are loving having the chickens as part of our family the kids are out with them all day we let them free range for a few hours every day around our large enclosed yard.

Excellent! I was a little concerned that the run was a bit small [or is the wired part also part of the coop and they have a run as well as that?] and that they would get bored but if they are having a wander around the garden, good stuff!

The only thing I would also be worried about with the open roost is wind powered rain getting in; you do not want them getting wet while sleeping.

What you could do, when you get a chance .. use some of the plastic roof sheeting like you have laying across the top to sideways cover the top part of the A-frame run .. if that makes sense? Fashion it so that it is easily added and removed, depending on if rain is expected.

That should stop any rain reaching them on the roost and if the bottom half of the side walls are still open, they should not get too hot.

If they are anything like my gals and do not do ‘get wet’ they would then also be able to poke around in the run as opposed to just sheltering in the covered end.

Yep, I have never regretted getting chickens, they are so entertaining and loving .. speaking of which, I only ducked in to check a couple of things .. back to spending some quality time with the featheries.

Hopefully we can catch up again.
