So, we just moved to the Denver metro area and found a house with no HOA on a huge corner lot. (Exciting, right?) We should hear Monday if our offer was accepted. Which means I CAN FINALLY HAS CHICKENS!

My husband and I were wondering how many of you asked for permission from neighbors before building the coop. Where the coop would be located is about 30 yards from the closet neighbor. I think its far enough away to not have to bother asking, but my husband is unsure. We certainly don't want to be those neighbors that others think "There goes the neighborhood" We won't build the coop until next spring because of other work we need to do on the house, so I guess it gives us sometime to build a relationship with neighbors... Anyways, I digress, talking to neighbors or is 30 yards more than enough that the hens shouldn't be real noticeable?

I too have a corner lot, with only one neighbor on one side. I floated the idea past him and his family....but only because we are good friends. If I hadn't known them, I probably wouldn't have bothered. However, there is a house on our street that already have a couple of hens.

My coop is more like 30 FEET from the neighbors'. I never asked anybody. But I live in a neighborhood with a lot of chickens, and they're legal. If nobody in the area had them, or if I were skirting the law, I'd definitely let the neighbors know.

If you're big on good neighbor relations, then I think (once you get to know them a bit), I'd let them know ( I would not ASK) that I'm considering a few hens. I'd also assure them that the coop won't be an eyesore (a cute coop that fits into the surroundings) and that it will be well maintained.
