Thanks for the info!! At the size I will need to make the henhouse for the planned increase in numbers, I may try to go with a footing, then bury some rubble & rocks and have a firm dirt floor over that. I don't think I will have a problem with predators digging in, but a Redtailed Hawk has taken up a perch on a nearby ham radio antenna, so until the new ones I plan to get are full grown, I think I will need to keep them in a covered run.

Yup--going to need a covered run! Hawks will get even the largest hens...
