Copper Dominic hatched 8 chicks today.

My hen was very dutiful mother, I put water, food and treats next to her nesting box. This afternoon her brood hatched, 7 are healthy, one died shortly after it hatched I think. Put mom and her hatchlings in a stock tank I normally use when I my chick order comes in. Everyone is settled in all warm, and cozy. This is my first time of having a hen brood her eggs. Pretty excited to have this happen.

Welcome to BYC! Congratulations on your hatch. Is that red light from a heat lamp? I don't think the chicks need it if they have a broody.

Yes it is, she 8 eggs that aren't just hers. Was brooding sitting on them. I figure the lamp will give rhe eggs a chance to hatch. She is turning them. One thing for sure she is protective of her hatchlings, and eggs. First time any of the hens showed a maternal instinct. I have marks to prove it.
