Copper Maran 8 weeks old... please help me seperate the Hens from the roos.......

This is the pullet in question at 8 to 9 weeks of age...I really thought she'd turn out to be a roo but she laid by 16 to 18 weeks. I figured it was having been brooded under a hen in the lengthening daylight. It was really early to lay, but she did. (I went back and double checked my dates).

I'm glad I didn't judge her too quickly.

At 8-9 weeks... it looks like she has a pretty good comb that is red... maybe I will wait it out.. No one is crowing or fighting... so sitting tight may be a good option for me now.

looks like you might have four pullets to me ..... but judging someone's birds other than our own is difficult even with pics .

They all look good !
I guess -- Blue - Green - Peach -Lavender --- with possibilities on Hot Pink- Blue- Yellow (toss-ups)............ would need much better look at the birds(the backs/saddle for sure) and more growth to be anywhere near accurate .

So JS Nelson and doubleleft, do you not agree with the point about the copper on the wings being def roos? I have one in question that I'm sure is a pullet, but copper is coming on the wings. Just learning.
Thanks.

yes i do (that's the reason i was asking for more pics) otherwise it looks just like a pullet (i assume you are talking about the one w/what might be or might not-be a speck of copper ?) .

BCM pullets are only supposed to have copper at the neck, maybe a little at the chest; however, they can have it elsewhere, just never the brick red on the wing bows as that is the mark of a male.

It is a flaw from SOP, but the pullets with some gold on the back are called "mossy back," and also tend to lay the darkest eggs.

So a fleck of gold out of place does not prove male.
